About me

Dear Sir / Madam,

I would like to apply for the advertised post of Copywriting - Digital (FIR/E/J55837). I have several years of experience of copywriting, managing editorial, copy and teaching and learning teams, proofreading and where appropriate subbing or editing copy, and considering metadata and SEO for the submitted content.

I have exemplary proofing skills and can ensure that all copy is accurate, relevant and available to meet business critical deadlines. I also take pride in maintaining a consistent editorial voice for the employer, ensuring all messages leaving me, be they B2B, B2C, or internal communications, meet the same high and exacting standards. In my first editorial role at IT Publishing UK Ltd, I managed a team of 4 full time copywriters and another 3 freelancers. During my time working in education and at the point when I left to return to a copy writing post, I was directly managing a team of 14 people, across four campuses throughout the Midlands. This team included Visiting Lecturers, and as well as being responsible for the capital expenditure for my department, I also handled the budget for these employees too.

I always identify and drive changes, and been proactive in anticipating customer needs. I set up and ran the first Twitter account for a previous employee back in 2009 (long before Tweets would scroll across the screens of prime-time TV shows), wrote copy for the same employers first Social Media-based ad campaign using Facebook, and also launched the UK's first MP3 focused magazine long before iTunes downloads or PirateBay controversies.

I have trained and mentored new staff throughout my career, helping my teams grow and develop to meet demands. I have also lead continuing professional development sessions for my staff and the staff of other teams to enable their own growth and help them to achieve the best they can from a career point of view. In the early stages of the process, I would examine the importance of SEO within copywriting, and identify how to position my employer at the top of likely online searches. I would do this by taking any existing keywording / metadata management service or implement my own if one is currently not in place.

For my own continuing professional development, I would ensure I keep up to date with any changes and developments in Digital Asset Management technology trends and innovation. I have a high awareness of IP licensing and copyright laws and have established links with a wide range of image and video libraries. I would continue to use the latest vesions of the entire Adobe Creative Suite to ensure my skills remain current. I'm very confident using the entire CS package, but am particularly strong with InDesign and PhotoShop.

I am currently freelancing but would naturally be available for an immediate start should my application ultimately lead to me being offered this exciting post. Thank you very much for your kind consideration.

Yours sincerely

Dean Reilly
