About me

I am writing in the hopes of securing an internship for Dazed Digital; the publication is something I always look forward to reading, and I have kept up with its articles for many years now.

I am currently studying for a BA English Language degree at the University of Birmingham (on track for a 2:1) and am in my final year of study. Throughout the past two years, I've really been able to excel in my writing abilities, which is something I have had tremendous fun exploring as journalism (with editing) has been my end-goal for over ten years. I am almost finished my degree and would love to secure an internship placement at the publication. Now, as a growing member of the LGBTQ+ community, I believe I have really found my place in the world when it comes to having a voice. I have a blog entitled 'Your Diversity' as I truly believe that everyone should be allowed to live their own unique life in any way they please. Dazed has always been a source of release and relief for me, inspiring me through its pages and articles not only to live my life in my way, but also to help others live this way too. The useful, relatable articles not only allow for an escape, but also show that everyone and everything counts.

As well as having a penchant for helping people escape, I have always been drawn to the social issues of society. Experiencing work in the features department would allow me to explore social issues of all areas, in an in-depth and explorative fashion; this is something I know how to do. As stated in my CV, I have taken part in a lengthy internship at PinkNews Media, giving me an invaluable insight into corporations dedicated to the LGBTQ+ community and the issues surrounding it. Not only was I able to write for the publication's annual Awards, but I was a first point-of-call during the event; it was amazing, and I flourished exactly as I thought I would in a setting that encouraged both a honing of specific topics and a way of speaking to masses like they were the only person in the world.

My CV shows various other points that I have excelled in whilst gathering experience, and I think this type of placement would really pave the way for further adaptation; Dazed Digital would give such a great view into the industry that I have envisioned myself in for so long, and I think it would be a fabulously enriching experience. I believe that the intended audience of Dazed, and my own intended audience, are one in the same. I really think that my voice could be a potential power for the publication, and hopefully my work suggests this too.

This experience is certainly something I would enjoy being a part of. I look forward to seeing what it has to offer in the future, and I certainly look forward to hearing back from you so that I can be a part of it. As an up-and-coming writer and editor to some of the biggest publications known (hopefully), I truly think I would fit right into the student-friendly, accepting, escapist world of Dazed, and I would love for you to agree!
