About me
I have over twenty years experience as a director across a range of media types. My career as a TV director includes TV film, primetime adult, soap and children's programming and amounts to some eighty hours of broadcast material. I have also worked extensively in film, commercials, corporates and promos. Genres are equally extensive and though I started in strong affecting drama, I discovered a knack for comedy and my favourite kinds of storytelling now tend to cluster at either end of the dramatic scale. In the last ten years I have increasingly also turned to writing and developing my own projects and producing is a natural extension of this as a conduit to bringing them to fruition.
A graduate of The London Film School, I worked as a runner and in the creature shop on 'Aliens' and as a third assistant director on 'A Fish Called Wanda', before turning producer, optioning 'The Book of Mini Sagas' and making six films which were sold to UIP and distributed theatrically. Soon after I turned director and made 'The 'Euphoric Scale', a short that led to my first TV drama in the shape of 'The Bill'. In the space of three years I rose quickly through soap series 'London Bridge', to one hour medical serial 'Staying Alive' and then to a well received TV film of Wuthering Heights for ITV. Commissions in a growing range of programmes were consistent over the next few years until in 2006 the second series of 'The Giblet Boys' which I directed and contributed 2 episodes as writer, won Best Drama in the Children's Baftas.
I have though concentrated on developing a slate of my own feature, theatre, TV drama and factual projects and been a director for hire in corporates and commercials and as a result, have considerably consolidated my skillset. This now includes in depth writing skills for drama, documentary and web, self shooting on a number of different cameras, editing both long and short drama and documentary forms on FCP7 and Adobe CC suite, (including skills with After Effects, grading and sound dubbing applications). I have also benefitted from the opportunity to travel and film some fascinating and challenging subjects in locations including New York, Las Vegas, China and countries across Europe.
