About me

I have over 5 years experience, designing museums, visitor centres and exhibition projects.

I have experience in working on museum projects with budgets varying from £11.5m (Shetland Museum and Archives) to £4000 (Fife Mobile Museum Bus).

I studied at Napier University in Edinburgh and graduated with a BSc (Hons) in Industrial Design. I am now looking to extend the scope of my professional experience.

I pride myself in my accuracy and attention to detail and have acquired an excellent understanding of techniques of visualisation, problem solving and creativity. I am particularly competent in transferring ideas from head to paper by sketching, rendering, creating sketch/final models to scale, producing CAD visuals and presenting concepts through to final design by various media. I have also had CAD visuals published in both Design Week and Museums Practice magazines.

I am fully proficient in various CAD packages including Vectorworks and Artlantis. I am fully competent in the design, development and detailing of concepts, producing detail design drawings for tender and manufacture, liaison with client/curator and production team and managing a project from initial brief to production and installation. I have experience in working alongside 2D designers and I am fully proficient in Adobe CS4, Photoshop and CorelDraw, Mac & PC. I also work well within a team and individually.

I produce accurate technical information including drawings, bills of materials, preparing and issuing schedules for display cases, mounts, graphics, audio visual, multimedia and interactives. I produce and issue contract instructions, product specifications for exhibitions and also produce tender reports. My experience includes designing children's activity areas, low-tech interactives, graphic design for print; such as caption cards, graphic panels, vinyls, leaflets, brochures and instructional illustrations and designing artefact mounts for manufacture, which involves drafting accurate artefact drawings. I am always on the lookout for new materials and finishes to help optimise the look, feel and quality of the exhibition design and I am always keen to learn new skills.
