About me

Dear Sir/Madam,

My name is Dave McCreery and I have just come to the end of my BA Hons English and Creative Writing degree at Manchester Metropolitan University. I am looking to begin a career as a writer and I think the vacancy advertised is a fantastic opportunity for me to learn new skills and bring my creativity, enthusiasm and skill to the role.

While my main focus at university has been creative writing specialising in prose, the critical assignments that make up almost half of the degree have been challenging and enjoyable for me, pushing me to do the best I can and to constantly increase my ability. Over the last three years, I believe that my writing has gone from strength to strength because of the people I have met and the challenges I have gone through. I have become a more resilient and confident writer.

I have worked as a Creative Writing Ambassador through MMU for the last two years and this has given me valuable insight into working with people from all ages and backgrounds. I can lead when appropriate but have no problem supporting others in the lead role. Respect within a team is very important and these workshops have helped me to understand that.

I have been involved in the judging and editing processes of the All Write! and the Midland Future Manchester competitions. These projects required impartial judgements of competition entries while looking for key criteria that were needed on shortlisted entries. After this process is done, I worked with others to edit and tidy the entries ready to be published in the relevant anthologies. I've enjoyed these projects immensely and they have been important in my growth as a writer but also as a person looking to enter a job in the writing industry.

In the past, I have worked with organisations on their magazine schemes to get some experience in not only writing for different audiences but in areas such as editing and publishing and I'm very keen to explore these avenues further.

Throughout all of the projects I have worked on, I have developed strong communication skills and have proven myself to be versatile and adaptable to any situation that may arise and engage with tasks in an enthusiastic and positive manner. I am eager to learn and take on new challenges to broaden my skills and experience, whilst applying myself to any task completely.
