CAPE TOWN, SOUTH AFRICA // Darrin heads up the largest VFX studio in South Africa. His exceptionally high standards, meticulous attention to detail and vast experience on set are evident in the award winning work his talented team produces for companies like Disney, Warner, Sony, BBC, Mr X, Technicolor, Nat Geo and Sky. He is also an accomplished animation director, specialising in commercials and game cinematics.

After graduating with a degree in Animation at DJCAD in Dundee, Scotland, Darrin spent the following years working for visual effects and animation companies in South Africa and Canada. He joined BlackGinger in 2006 as animation supervisor and by 2010 had moved to his current role, overseeing the studio team.

Darrin gives freely of his time to educate students and animation enthusiasts on technology, workflows and methodologies at conferences, festivals and other industry events, where he has been a key speaker and competition judge. He is also well known at the local training institutions where he is often invited to comment on curriculae and student work.

With energy to spare, Darrin is a star athlete, having completed over 30 triathlons, representing South Africa in Zell-am-See, Austria and Chicago, USA in 2015 and in Port Elizabeth, South Africa in 2018.
