About me

What kind of person are you looking for

Studying was great for me in developing technical and conceptual skills, but now I've had a taste of the real world through my own design commissions, I'm ready to get my teeth into working for a practice.

I hope to be employed as a junior in an Interior Design or Architectural practice, preferably working on non-domestic projects like Retail, Museum, Bar, Restaurant and Exhibition design. I like to work on spaces that delight the user, working with unusual materials, applied graphics and well-considered use of lighting. Designing for what sells - be it a brand, experience or product - is often the most exciting brief for me as it means considering what matters most now.

You won't find a junior with as broad a skill set as mine -

I'm an excellent communicator in both speech and writing and love making ideas compelling and accessible. This has included project presentations at University, working in sales and market research, as well as journalism during the Edinburgh festival.

Previous study means that I have a strong grasp of research and analysis methods giving me a thorough and rigorous working method.

An aptitude for software means I take to new packages like a duck to water, and already have great skills in Microstation and Adobe CS3/4, as well as Microsoft Office and Google Sketchup.

I'm a grounded and realistic person as well as a creative. I do the 'boring' jobs with enthusiasm and attention to detail, because doing a good job matters to me, no matter the task.

Relationships matter to me too and you'll find me to be a personable, considerate team-member as well as friendly and professional with clients.

None of this means I'd call myself perfect - I want to learn and always own my mistakes in the learning process, which I've learned well through both crits in the studio and dealing with contractors on site. I hope you can see that I have a lot to offer your practice and you'll consider hiring me for your upcoming projects. I'm available immediately. Portfolio and references on request.
