About me

Ref: Junior Artworker

I am a recent graduate of De Montfort University, and after studying there for three years I achieved a First Class honours in Animation Design. Since leaving university last year I have worked at several animation studios around the country temporarily as a Junior Animator, RJDM Studios in Northamption, Blue-Zoo in London, and most recently The Character Shop in Birmingham.

I am writing to you in regards of the designer/illustrator position available, as although my degree is primarily in animation I also had to cover many 2D aspects of work, such as design, layout, character and prop design and storyboarding. I have always been a keen illustrator and cartoonist and often design and produce my own greetings cards and have recently started my own web-comic.

Studying Animation has given me skills I didn't know I had previously. Skills that I think would be an asset to your company. While at University I discovered I had a natural flare for animation, grasping the principles quickly and understanding timing for actions and comedy.

I also found a love for writing and storyboarding, working out shots and bringing the most across to an audience in the simplest way. Through these new found skills I also found that I had a good eye for direction, which is something I dream of dong professionally in the future, directing my own projects or projects of others. I have also recently started doing my own web-comic to improve all these skills.

As an animator and designer I would love the chance to bring these skills to your company to improve and use them further. I'm a huge fan of cartoons and animation in general and I have been drawing my own cartoons for longer than I can remember. I have a good, dry, yet silly sense of humour, which I think shows in a lot of my work, I am always writing jokes with a close friend of mine for my web-comic.

Although my skills lie primarily in 3D animation, I have done basic 2D animation at the start of my university course, and since leaving university I have been teaching myself to use ToonBoom Studio, and although I am yet to use it professionally, I think I have a great grasp of animation principles and am a skilled illustrator so I would have no problem using Adobe Flash or ToonBoom professionally.

I have used my skills in creative illustration most recently in designing and supplying bookmarks, party invitations, greetings cards, a shop frontage, and a blackboard display promoting christmas for a popular local restaurant chain.

I welcome the opportunity to meet with you to discuss any position in greater detail, hope to hear back from you soon.

sincerely

Daniel Grady
