About me

My name is Dinuka Caryl Fernando and I'm writing to express my interest in the Graphic Design job for First Image.

I have a sincere and passionate interest in illustration, art and design. I have always collected examples of what I consider to be good design and have taken inspiration from them for my own personal projects and interests which include drawing and as well as digital design. My background includes one in graphic design as well as in literature and the visual arts. I have undertaken continuing education courses which have developed my skills as an artist and illustrator.

The training I underwent to become a designer was intense and challenging. The professional high-pressure atmosphere of the studio I was taught in, the time spent with experts in their fields and the high expectations and demands of my teachers forced me to produce nothing short of perfect. I have worked as a freelance designer and photographer and understand the design process, how to communicate effectively with clients, take a brief and the importance of deadlines.

I also have a meticulous eye for detail because of constant photo editing and proof reading. As a teacher, I performed a variety of duties - often simultaneously juggling several projects which ranged from preparing lessons and projects to organizing and attending small and large scale events.

I successfully applied to be on the Welfare Team, a selective group of staff who oversaw whole school and inter-school projects. I am very flexible and work well within a team but I also accomplish projects independently. The various responsibilities I held necessitated that I be extremely organized, prioritize and work under pressure to tight deadlines.

I am willing to learn, enthusiastic, hard working and take initiative in order to genuinely add as much value as I can. As a teacher, I was part of initiating links with a variety of people and groups including local businesses, newspapers and award-winning theatres. As a result of the initiative, the school and students were benefitted with opportunities that they otherwise would not have had.

I am currently undertaking a project as a freelance designer focusing on identity development for emerging independent music label ‘Signacion Music'. I'm a fast learner and would love the opportunity to take on this role as a graphic designer for First Image. I am confident that the people and environment would stimulate new and exciting ideas which I would delight at being a part of.
