About me

Chayim Shvarzblat a American watercolor painter, born on December 14, 1954 in Lakewood, New Jersey.

Firstly, he studied architecture at the New York School of Art. However, he find out that his real passion is painting.

In 1978, After his parents' divorce, Chayim moved to Paris. He lived with his aunt, an aquarelle painter, for a short period of time. She motivated him to enroll at the Académie de la Grande Chaumière, Paris. Shvarzblat graduated in 1979 and holds a Bachelor of Arts in Painting.

In the early '80s, the painter was awarded a Harkness Fellowship and a Guggenheim Fellowship. Additionally, he represented the USA at the 1992 Venice Biennale.

Over the course of the the early '90s, Shvarzblat worked as a freelance professional illustrator and portrait artist.

Chayim Shvarzblat has painted on location landscapes from many countries. He started painting on location when he lived in Sicily for three years and in the south coast of France.

Currently, he lives in Manhattan, New York and work in his atelier and Shvarzblat teaches atmospheric watercolor, both in-studio and en plein air at the Institute of Fine Arts, New York University.

Chayim presented his work on over 50 exhibitions in the most prestigious galleries around the world. The painter has had over 20 solo exhibitions. His first solo exhibition was in 1989.
