About me

Cato Hoeben is a film composer who has been composing since the age of seven and played in bands such as the Islington Jazz Band with Paloma Faith and the Camden Youth Jazz Orchestra in London. He is a versatile composer having written music in various styles from gypsy breakbeat tango to contemporary piano pieces, however, his strength is scoring subtle emotive cinematic scores and comedy.

On Netflix, you will find Cato's score for Eve's Apple, a documentary about female genital mutilation and horror feature Firstborn for which Cato provided over 25 cues of additional music.

Notably, the film Rocket Cato scored won the grand prize at Virgin Media Shorts and led to him scoring the £30,000 BFI-funded film Acoustic Kitty. He has provided music for various productions including the 2012 Rolex Award Winner Saving the Siberian Tiger, the BBC comedy series Animal Crackers and written cues for features like Outpost: Black Sun, Dread and TV film Stalkers while working with 2021 Oscar Winning film composer Theo Green (Dune).

Recently, Cato won the Parma International Music Film Festival Violetta d'Oro award for his score for 2by2 and has picked up various awards on other projects such as White Wood by Lou Astbury which won the Wildscreen Festival BBC Newcomer Awards. Two years later, he scored Hudson's Monarch by filmmaker Mat Thompson which won the same award in 2010.
