About me
I graduated from The University of Manchester in July 2006 with a 2:1 BSc Honours degree in Textile Design and Design Management with Industrial Experience.
I became interested in designing and working with CAD packages, during my placement year with ____________. I used a variety of CAD packages, including Photoshop. Since graduating in July 2006 I have been employed at _____________, in their CAD department, designing ties, scarves and handkerchiefs for menswear. I have become competent in using the Ned Graphics designing software, which includes Design and Repeat Pro, Easy Colouring and Storyboard and Cataloguing. I have gained many valuable skills from my industrial placement at ¬¬_____________ and from my current employment with ____________. I am very interested to pursue a career in design, to apply the skills and knowledge I already have, but so I can build upon them.
I am particularly interested in a career in design, because I am passionate about designing and I am able to show my creative skills in all areas of design. I would be privileged to be able to work within your design team and use the design skills and knowledge I have developed from my industrial work experience.
Whilst at university I had a variety of part time jobs, which have required me to work individually and as part of a team, dealing with many different people. I feel that my work at ____________ was very beneficial as I developed many new skills in print design for fabrics. I had to work independently and make many design decisions, which were based around a brief. From doing this it helped to increase my confidence, as I had to work with many clients for a number of the fabric designs. These skills have proven to be beneficial in my current design work. I am able to create a wide variety of designs, from small motifs to large paisley designs. I have a good knowledge of colour combinations and current fashion trends.
In my final year at university I developed two bed linen ranges, based on a floral theme, to cater for two different areas in the market. One bed linen range was based on a traditional country cottage theme and the other was modern, strong outlines of flowers and used bold colours. The two ranges show how a theme can be developed in different ways to create two very distinctive styles. I have enclosed some pictures from the Made In Manchester degree show where my work was exhibited.
