About me

Dear Hiring Manager,

I am writing to apply for the Art Director for Retail position as advertised on Creative Pool. I believe my experience and passion for fashion, retail and photography would be ideal for this role, and I am actively looking to further my career in art directing for retail.

Currently I am responsible for running the very busy in-house graphic design studio at LIBERTY London. Our team has produced excellent conceptual designs which have been highly regarded by the press, fashion, retail and design industries. We work on up to 30 projects at a time, both large and small, from print to windows and online. My role involves project managing and overseeing art direction to ensure all briefs are met with the highest quality of design work and retain brand consistency.

During my time here I have organised, art directed and styled photoshoots for lookbooks, fashion and product photography for catalogues, and some web photography; and have established some excellent contacts within the fashion and design industries including photographers and stylists. I possess excellent negotiation skills and have been known to deliver exceptional outcomes from relatively small project and department budgets. Working closely with the heads of Buying, Press and Marketing and Visual identity, I am always kept involved in the marketing and presentation of our luxury labels and international exclusives.

Fashion photography is an area I have become very passionate about and recently completed an Art Direction for Fashion Photography course at Central St Martin's. I have a keen interest in fashion publications and recently freelanced as Production Manager with London Fashion Week's The Daily. My work history also includes Editor-in-Chief of my university newspaper and Design and Production Manager for a community paper.

Having trained and worked as a graphic designer, I have a sophisticated eye for visuals, use my art direction skills on a daily basis, and am more than familiar with working through the design process from brief to final delivery. I have a keen eye for detail but also have the ability to see the bigger picture. I work well under pressure, love embracing new challenges and problem solving opportunities.

My previous role with Australia's largest shopfittings company involved art direction and design of their brand new Product Catalogue and launch of their Product Website. My job involved all art direction and styling of photo shoots, and project management, development and implementation of ideas with the managing directors and web developers. My work effectively encouraged growth in sales and customer base, resulting in an expansion of new and existing business nationwide, particularly targeted to designer fashion brands.
