About me

I am a freelance 3D Animator, Motion Graphic Designer and Illustrator, four years ago I completed an MSc in 3D Animation, Games and Virtual Environments. Animation and Illustration are lifelong passions and to be able to use all my skills and study them at masters level was a dream of mine. I love learning new programs and techniques and I continue to educate myself in the latest trends. My BA Degree was in Printed Textile Design and this is where I honed all my hand drawn and painting skills. Although a lot of my work is digital I do enjoy sketching and painting in traditional mediums. I generally begin even 3D projects my sketching, drawing and painting. The things I love most about 3D animation and illustration, are that 2D characters can evolve into 3D 'beings' who have stories and characters and can interact with each other in worlds that before I became a 3D animator only existed in my head. I am experienced in Maya, 3DS Max and the all the Adobe Creative Suite. As well as 3D animation I have completed corporate motion graphics projects and my most current work is exploring using animated image files on 3D models.
My research for my MSc focused on creating educational 3D games for Primary School age children and I focussed my dissertation on creating a prototype French Game, for learning French as a second language. I worked with an equally passionate French teacher to produce the prototype game. The hypothesis for the educational game was that it should be as fun an engaging as a game for leisure. I hypothesized it should have a story and well constructed characters that the young learner could relate to. Also that the game should not just be 'a worksheet in disguise,' that children will be less motivated to play. I have created a trailer about the game and further information on the story and characters are in my portfolio. Whilst creating the game I had feedback from my own sons and other children of primary school age. I also found this helped successfully when researching other child centric projects.
Before I became an animator I was an FF&E Interior Designer and Visualiser which is where I first became interested in 3D design. I worked in an architectural practice in London, where I worked on many varied projects in hospitality, healthcare, corporate offices and historical buildings. I have carried through my background and knowledge of Interior Design to the environments I create in illustration and also 3D. I often include my favourite furniture and lighting designs! Also I use my knowledge of lighting design when creating 3D environments.
I am used to working in professional environments although I can work completely remotely from home. I have completed quite a few jobs this way since returning home to The Wirral.
