About me
My name is Cara Laithwaite and I am currently an online journalist for the ITV charity Fixers.
My job is to research, interview, write and sub articles to a high standard, produce informative copy on a variety of interesting topics, cover national events and meet with stakeholders.
I oversee new website designs, come up with ideas to engage an online audience and write news stories that accompany our ITV broadcasts.
Making contacts and maintaining a rapport with interviewees and other charities contributed to my stories becoming the most read articles on our website.
I write to a daily deadline and work closely with other teams to make sure my work coincides with launches, events or social media campaigns. During national events it is my duty to cover the day with stringent note-taking and to represent the online team by conducting interviews with professionals.
As well as writing for online I also work with our in-house creative team to make sure print resources are grammatically and factually correct, as well as checking that they contain the correct URLs to drive people back to our website when the campaigns are launched publicly.
I currently work alone in office as my editor is remote and so I am very comfortable in managing my own workload, prioritising deadlines and being first point of call for any problems or queries from other journalists or our communications team.
I have vast experience with using content management systems as well as HTML and am confident using programmes on either a PC or Mac.
During my time working as a journalist I have worked extensively within the charity sector and am striving to continue this trend. I enjoy working a full-time job in the knowledge that I'm spending my time helping others and contributing to society.
