About me

When taking on a creative task it helps me to visualise my ideas via hand drawn techniques before taking them through to digital processes. I also find that once these ideas are first sketched out i become obsessed by them, often forming that last nagging thought before bed, and more often than not the first thought upon waking. This makes me committed to finishing projects and willing to put in as much effort as is necessary towards their execution.

I try to not let anything limit my creative output, tackling new tasks with the same enthusiasm as ones I have previously worked with. Balancing my own personal aesthetic and the required needs of a client, in order to generate work which is both unique and fits a set brief. I have always tried my hand at new mediums and felt most comfortable when combining different techniques.

On a personal level i feel comfortable networking with a range of personalities, feeling much more can be gained from communicating face to face, however understanding the multiple communication platforms of the 21st century. During the years of my studies I have managed to juggle course work and freelancing with working as a waiter. This has helped me work within different contexts and scenarios, managing my time to fit to a tight schedule, and ultimately enjoying these multiple outlets for my creativity and also my personality.

Skills

A strong knowledge in Adobe's creative suite specifically in using Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Flash, Premiere, After Effects and Dreamweaver. Personal strengths in using Photoshop and InDesign for print production and photo retouching and also Flash, Premiere and After Effects for a range of both animation and moving image work. Able to use different photographic mediums such as; medium/large/35mm format, wet film and photographic developing, digital photography and digital retouching. A keen interest in illustration using both hand drawn and digitally rendered techniques, with a personal preference for more traditional techniques such as pen/brush and ink., As a creative I try not to limit my practice to using any one medium to express myself. It is important in my artistic practice to harness traditional and digital methods to generate work. I am a quick learner and enjoy the challenge of learning new skills.

Sector Experience

Working as a junior graphic designer has given me good insight into corperate design. Fitting a corperate identity meant keeping to certain colour palletes, type settings and logo placement. My main roles in design for print have been in layout for annual and interim reports, this included much proofing and typesetting. I have worked more on flash development, creating global advertising campaigns for both web and t.v broadcast., Working as a Printer has given me a insight into the various possibilities for graphic design. Teaching me about different stock, printing processes and finishing techniques. Whilst working in the print industry I learnt about vinyl cutting, large format digital printing, cutter printers, screen printing, lenticular printing and laser cutting., Working as a freelance photographer has educated me on how studio set ups function. Assisting on photo/video shoots has illustrated the professional practice of photography and moving image.
