I'd like to apply for the Junior Digital Designer role.

In short, I recently interned at digital creative agency Acknowledgement for 3 months, learnt a bit of front-end code to create Brianbale.com, and graduated from the University of Brighton in July 2011. I'm currently design volunteering with Children of the Mekong, a London-based charity. This outlines my year since completing a BSc course in Product Design.

To stay busy after finishing, I decided to learn HTML and CSS to build a distinctive portfolio online. A 3 month project made up of design, code, photography, and trial and error, brianbale.com went live in January this year. Based on the 960 grid system, the website relies on 4 columns and also features tumblr integrated into the site (blog). I share the same attention to detail with design as I do with code.

At Acknowledgement, I was primarily brought in to create landing page assets for their website. Within the first week, I was given the chance to create screens (from wireframes) for an iPhone app. This opportunity lead to web, mobile, email, and video projects throughout the internship. I also created assets for bigger projects such as icons and wrote a blog post on recommended apps for this summer's European Championships.

Children of the Mekong support great projects for children in Southeast Asia. For this reason, I chose this charity and am continuing to deliver work for their digital channels. Re-design of their website and social media pages are currently WIP.

Studying product design at the University of Brighton for 3 years cemented user thinking as a necessity in my design process. While interning, I gained the most from feedback discussions with designers on usability issues. I also dived into UI and UX when designing for (in particular) app and mobile design. User-centred thinking is an area I'd be eager to learn more about in digital projects.

To get an idea of my design process, it normally follows these steps: research, sketching, wireframe and/or mockup, concept(s) and finalising the design with feedback and amends across all stages. As a result, a process-driven design approach has developed my designs tremendously and satisfied those who've briefed me.

Unfortunately, the majority of the work I produced while interning cannot be displayed online or sent digitally. Due to contracts, I have to respect agency agreements with clients. Therefore, I can only show you these projects in person.
