About me

Greetings! I am applying for the Proofreader/Copywriter position advertised here on Creativepool. Reading the job posting felt like reading a description of a job someone completely made up specifically for me. An interesting and challenging position at a fun, energetic company in a barn in rural England

When I was attending college, many of the courses I took required me to read my classmates' writing. I found that I had an unusual and rare love of pouring over the nitty-gritty details of grammar, punctuation, sentence structure, and the like in order to bring a piece of writing to its fullest potential. In my current work as a content writer for a small web developer, I have occasional opportunities to do the same. Many clients provide their own written content, and I get to whip it into professional shape before unleashing it into the world. I'm looking for a job that will allow me to do more of this.

For the last five years, I've worked as a caregiver for developmentally disable adults. Besides helping clients with day-to-day tasks, I also interact with nurses, job coaches, client families, and doctors. Each person requires a different communication style and understanding of what information I can or can't legally disclose. Whether it's been over the phone, face-to-face, or written, I have had plenty of opportunity to develop the ability to talk to each person in a professional and appropriate way. This is a skill that has also helped me as a content writer as I talk to clients as diverse as masseuses, mechanics, and carpenters, each with his or her own business goals and personal style, and it's a skill that I hope to be able to bring to your fine institution.

During high school I was a writer and page editor for my school newspaper. Although the programs I used back then are long extinct, I've been able to retain some of that knowledge for various school or personal projects using other page-design software since then. In fact, when updating my CV, I had to download and reload an old program to make it look professional. I will be able to learn the programs and systems that Clarity uses very quickly.

Thank you for taking the time to read this letter and my CV. I look forward to hearing more about this job.

Sincerely,

Brendan Hancock
