About me

Hello PURPLE,

my name is Boris Bonev and I am a Bulgarian born Graphic Designer located in Rotterdam till recently. Since I have decided to change the location and London have always been a dream of mine I started looking for a job there. That's how I stumbled upon your announcement for Middleweight Designer position. I am very interested in this job proposal mainly because I am in love with typography and printing and It sounds like a lot of fun working with you.

I hope after you check out my work you'll also find me suitable for the position as I find myself suitable for it but before that let me share some facts about me and my background.

I have graduated the National Academy of Arts in Sofia as a Bachelor which is known in for its very good practical education. There I studied Book and Print Graphics. In the speciality I had experience in creating the full range of editorial products from books, magazines, to packaging. I also received a strong foundation in calligraphy, typeface design and typography which later became a passion of mine. And last but not least in the academy I developed my good drawing skills creating illustrations for many publications which still helps me today when I have a more artistic project or simply to sketch my ideas.

Later on I decided to do my Maters in the Netherlands for its reputation as one of the best countries for one to study design. I was accepted in the Communication Design Master course of AKV St. Joost which is located in the city of Breda. There I had the chance of working with leading professionals as my tutors which was very valuable for my conceptual thinking and researching methods.

Besides that I have 2 years experience as a Graphic designer for one of the leading creative studios in Sofia. There I have created visual identities for festivals and exhibitions and participated in the development of the typefaces for the city of Sofia's official communication system. In my background I have featured in several books on graphic design and typography and have won several design competitions including 2011's International identity system competition for Sofia 2019 - European Capital of Culture. It was held by the mayor of Sofia and included 76 proposals from 6 different countries and an international jury.

As a professional I am interested is the development of visual concepts and communication campaigns combining creative use of various media with strong emphasis on Graphic Design. In my thinking process I use visual research, semiotics and semantics in order to discover interesting approach to a topic or an issue. In the formal part I like playing and experimenting with forms, especially with type and when needed to use my good drawing skills.

I am a dedicated graphic designer with a strong passion for typography which you can see in my portfolio (*) I think I'm the right person for Middleweight design position.
