Bluemarlin New York SYRVing this Thanksgiving

Published

This past Thanksgiving, members of the bluemarlin New York team, along with the agency's non-profit partner SYRV, embarked on the journey of a lifetime to provide relief to thousands of Nicaraguans in need.

Over the course of 2013, bluemarlin have been raising money from a series of creative fundraisers. Their goal, to raise $10,000 was reached last month. This money facilitated the necessary tools, filters, dispensers and education to bring clean water access to villages that have lacked basic access to clean drinkable water for nearly 15 years.

Highlights of the trip included:

Gauscoto:
- Providing the Guascoto village with the tools to reopen its 15 year old dry well.
- Distributing over 150 water filtration systems.
- Implementing a new library to support the local school.

Chinandega:
- Providing medication, food and clothing for over 250 villagers.
- Providing funds to restore the community centre cooking stove.
- Donating a water filtration system.

Fuente de Vente:
- Providing the children’s orphanage with a new library.

El Limon:
- Distributing over 50 water filtration systems.

Gigante:
- Home filter installation and water testing.

The bluemarlin team has proven its ability to be an agent of change through a brave vision and bold execution, ultimately changing the lives of thousands of Nicaraguan villagers for years to come. To learn more about bluemarlin’s partner SYRV, have a look at its website.

Many thanks to all those who donated and helped us reach our target!
