About me

Blake Douglas Young is a filmmaker, motion designer, animator, and a visual artist who combines live action, found footage, drawing, sculpture, and stop motion animation. His work is process-based and hands-on, using the tactility of materials to direct and inform his narratives. From 2011 to 2014 he worked as an independent filmmaker and freelance animator in Los Angeles and New York. His freelance work has included a diverse range of projects, from animating sequences for the documentary Hillbilly (2017), directed by Ashley York and Sally Rubin, to designing and animating projections for the theatrical musical The Verona Project (2012), produced by Northwestern University. He began teaching animation in 2014. He was a Visiting Assistant Professor at the Kansas City Art Institute from , and is currently a Lecturer at CalState, Los Angeles since 2017.

His independent films have screened in Los Angeles, San Francisco, New York and Washington, ., as well as internationally. His most recent animation short premiered in a retrospective of stop motion at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival, 2014. His films to date include Tango Luna (2019), Everything Tickety-boo (2014), Our Lady Divine (2011), Augustine (2011), Hello Johnny (2011), and The Taxonomist and His Mistress (2010).

Young attended Bard College, graduating with a . degree in French language and literature, and went on to complete his .A. degree in the Experimental Animation Program at the California Institute of the Arts. He is currently living and working in Los Angeles.
