About me

All the best ideas start out in life with a pencil. Preferably with a brew, ideally with a biscuit, but always with a pencil.

My name's Phil Sootheran and bdi design is my working title. I'm a graphic designer who goes through a fair amount of pencils. It's ok. I bring my own, I won't chew the end of yours.

HB, propelling, Rotring (old school) or even a chewed biro; if there's nothing else to hand, before moving to camera, timeline or Mac, a pencil is my default setting. A mantra ,drummed into me at college from over 12 years ago, has stayed with me: "If it doesn't work with a biro on a piece of A4, it's probably not that good an idea in the first place".

To that end I always set out to find the most elegant, considered and effective way of tackling your brief, getting to the nub of your issues, message and problems to provide the best means of communication with your market.

I'm always looking for the next design challenge. If you like the work you see, drop me a line.
