In a world where mobility aids are often overlooked as purely functional, Zeal Lifestyle is redefining the industry with a bold and stylish approach. Co-founded by Georgia Williams, a former retail designer for Dior, and Josh King, an industrial designer with experience at Seymour Powell, Zeal combines luxury aesthetics with cutting-edge functionality.
Inspired by Georgia’s Great Aunt Deb, who struggled to find a walker that suited her style, the duo created the Zeal Lifestyle Walker—a groundbreaking product that blends elegance, sustainability, and inclusivity. With features like shock-absorbing wheels, adjustable height, and a fully recyclable design, Zeal is more than just a mobility aid; it’s a statement of confidence, independence, and individuality.
In this exclusive interview, Georgia and Josh share the inspiration behind the Zeal Lifestyle Walker, take us behind the scenes of their groundbreaking innovation and reveal how they’re paving the way for a more inclusive, stylish, and sustainable future.
Concept and Inspiration

What was the initial inspiration behind the Zeal Lifestyle Walker, and how did Georgia’s Great Aunt influence the design process?
Zeal’s journey began during lockdown when my Great Aunty Deb, then 86, needed a walker. Josh and I searched everywhere, online and in stores, but nothing matched her excellent taste. The options were limited and uninspiring, so we decided to take matters into our own hands.
Choosing a mobility aid can be a huge decision, and we believe no one should have to compromise their identity for the ability of movement. Over the past four years, Great Aunty Deb has been instrumental in shaping our Zeal walker, testing every prototype, and sharing her insights. Her love for lilac even inspired our most popular colour,‘Thistle’!
Can you tell us about the challenges or gaps in the mobility aid market that you aimed to address with Zeal?
The assisted living sector faces major challenges: poor product design, ableist and ageist attitudes, and outdated mobility aids that compromise users' identities. With over £200m spent annually by the NHS on mobility aids, millions of items are discarded without a second life, highlighting the industry’s sustainability issues.
At Zeal Lifestyle, we tackle these problems by offering:
- A stylish, luxury walker designed with the user in mind
- The world’s first customisable walker with 125 combinations
- The first fully recyclable walker
- Accessible, seamless online experiences
- A brand that builds a community of "Zeal-ers," breaking stigma and celebrating life.
How did your respective backgrounds in retail and industrial design shape the walker’s unique aesthetic and functionality?
The Zeal walker blends retail luxury with industrial innovation, shaped by our unique expertise. My experience at Dior instilled a passion for timeless, user-focused design, challenging mobility aid stigma with a product that’s both functional and stylish.
Josh’s industrial design background at Seymour Powell and Factorydesign brings advanced engineering and intuitive features, ensuring durability and effortless usability.
Together, we’ve created a walker that balances form and function, empowering users with confidence, independence, and a sense of personal style.
Design Philosophy

What design principles did you prioritize when creating a mobility aid that blends style, functionality, and inclusivity?
We’ve reimagined the walker from the ground up, innovative, beautiful, user-focused, and planet-friendly. Zeal offers:
User-Centered Design: Thoughtfully crafted for comfort, adaptability, and ease of use, empowering confident, independent movement.
Aesthetic Appeal: A mobility aid that’s as functional as it is stylish, breaking stigma by celebrating vitality and individuality.
Inclusivity: Designed to suit diverse needs, body types, and lifestyles without compromising on quality or style.
Zeal redefines mobility aids, empowering, inspiring, and seamlessly fitting into daily life.
How did you balance the need for luxury and style with the practicality and durability required for a mobility aid?
Josh and I believe mobility aids should blend elegance with function. Using premium, lightweight materials, we ensure durability with a refined, sophisticated aesthetic.
Our design balances seamless functionality, ergonomic grips, smooth mobility, and stability, with sleek, contemporary styling. By collaborating with end users, we’ve created an intuitive, comfortable walker that exceeds expectations in quality and style.
With thoughtful details, from subtle finishes to customisation, Zeal is more than practical, it’s empowering and stylish.
The walker is marketed as the first fully recyclable option. How did sustainability factor into your design process?
Today’s walkers support you - but not the planet. We refuse to accept this. That’s why we reimagined the walker from the ground up, creating an innovative, user-focused design with minimal environmental impact.
Sustainability isn’t an afterthought, it’s at Zeal’s core. Our mission was to design a fully circular, repairable walker, prioritising environmental responsibility at every step.
Every material was chosen to ensure recyclability, embracing circular principles of reuse, repair, and recycling. Zeal is also designed for easy disassembly, requiring just three Allen keys, empowering users with the right to repair and ensuring no walker ends up in landfill.
Features and Innovation

The walker includes advanced features like shock-absorbing wheels and adjustable height. What role did user feedback play in developing these features?
User feedback has been pivotal in shaping features like shock-absorbing wheels and adjustable height. Josh and I spent hours speaking with end users, observing their needs, and tackling the challenges they face with current mobility aids.
For example, users often struggled with vibrations from uneven surfaces, inspiring our shock-absorbing wheels for a smoother, more comfortable ride. Recognising the diversity of users, we designed adjustable height settings to ensure a personalised fit - reducing strain for everyone, whether 5’4” or 6’4”.
Every feature is driven by real experiences, making Zeal practical, intuitive, and tailored to users’ needs.
How important was it to include customisable aesthetic options, and what has been the response to this feature so far?
Customisation was key for Josh and I, mobility aids shouldn’t feel clinical; they should reflect personal style and individuality.
The Zeal walker offers 125 configurations, allowing users to choose frame colours, seats, and wheel caps. Need a change? Swap out your seat or wheel caps to match an outfit or occasion.
The response has been incredible. As the first fully customisable walker, Zeal isn’t just about aesthetics, it’s about empowerment, dignity, and ownership.
Can you walk us through the process of designing the foldable mechanism and ensuring it met the needs of on-the-go users?
Compactability is key, walkers go wherever life takes you. We designed the Zeal walker to fit in any car boot and travel effortlessly.
Getting the foldable mechanism right was a challenge. Early prototypes didn’t fit in small car boots, thia was a major issue. After extensive testing with dozens of car models, we created the most compact walker on the market without sacrificing our sleek design.
We also prioritised simplicity for users with limited dexterity. With Zeal, folding takes just two easy steps: pull the seat tab to unlock, then push the handles together.
Addressing Stigma

Reducing the stigma of using mobility aids is a key focus for Zeal. What design choices did you make to achieve this goal?
Reducing the stigma around mobility aids is what inspired us to create Zeal Lifestyle. Too often, mobility devices feel overly medical, discouraging use, just like my Great Aunty Deb experienced. Shockingly, 70% of assistive technologies are abandoned due to unappealing design (NIHCR). We’re here to change that, making a walker that users are proud to own and excited to use.
By hiding mechanical features inside the frame, we achieved a sleek, modern design with smooth curves, premium materials, and customisable options for personal expression. Zeal looks less like a clinical device and more like a high-end lifestyle accessory.
Every detail balances beauty and usability, reframing mobility aids as empowering tools, not limitations. When users tell us they feel stylish and confident with Zeal, we know we’re breaking the stigma.
How do you think the Zeal Lifestyle Walker can help users feel more confident and independent?
For me, our Zeal Lifestyle walker is about empowering confidence and independence in everyday life.
Choosing a mobility aid can be a huge decision for yourself or a loved one, and we’re here to support you every step of the way. From exploring our website to holding your Zeal walker for the first time, the entire experience should feel exciting and liberating!
Collaboration and Development

What was the most challenging aspect of collaborating over four years with users and stakeholders during the development process?
The biggest challenge in our four-year collaboration was knowing which users and stakeholder feedback to prioritise. Balancing universal functionality with personal needs was key, every user is unique, which made designing for all a complex task. We focused on adaptability, using extensive testing to refine the design.
Maintaining a luxury aesthetic while meeting functional requirements was another hurdle. We had to know where to compromise to keep the walker both elegant and practical.
These challenges led us to a product that blends style, function, and individuality through creativity and collaboration.
Can you share any anecdotes or memorable moments from the testing and prototyping phases?
The past four years of testing and prototyping have been a whirlwind, some early prototypes still make us laugh! Late nights in our tiny studio flat, building prototypes, then driving to the Peak District to show my Great Aunt Deb for feedback, have been some of the most special moments.
One key moment was when our first prototype didn’t fit in the car boot, an eye-opener! We had to rethink the folding mechanism completely to ensure Zeal would be as compact as possible and practical for users.
Sending samples for medical safety testing felt like an endless cycle, but when we finally got the green light and exceeded medical standards, we celebrated with champagne! Knowing we’ve designed a walker that truly empowers users made every late night worth it.
Broader Impact and Vision

How do you see the Zeal Lifestyle Walker redefining the mobility sector and influencing future designs?
We see our Zeal Lifestyle Walker as a game-changer in the mobility sector. It challenges outdated perceptions by combining luxury, style, and sustainability with exceptional functionality. By prioritising user empowerment and personal expression, we’re proving that mobility aids can be both practical and beautiful.
I hope Zeal inspires future designers to focus more on individuality and inclusivity, breaking stigmas and embracing user-centred innovation. Our fully recyclable design sets a new standard for sustainability in the industry, paving the way for more eco-conscious solutions that blend elegance with responsibility. Zeal is just the beginning of this positive shift and movement for more inclusive products.
What does World Disability Day mean to you as designers, and how does Zeal’s mission align with its themes of inclusivity and empowerment?
For me, World Disability Day is a powerful reminder of why we do what we do at Zeal. It’s about celebrating the resilience and achievements of people with disabilities while recognising the work still needed to create a more inclusive world.
This day inspires me to continue designing products that break down barriers and reduce stigma, empowering people to live confidently and independently. It aligns perfectly with our mission to redefine mobility aids, not just as tools, but as symbols of freedom, dignity, and self-expression. It’s a day that fuels our passion for positive change and innovation.
