About me

To whom it concerns,

I'm looking to contact you in connection with the Copywriting position, as advertised on the Creative Pool website. I believe that my love for advertising, communications, writing and my previous experience make me the right match for this role. I also believe that I am an independent thinker, who can also work as part of a team. I am twenty-seven years old with an undergraduate honours degree in Journalism & Media Communications and a MSc in Creative Advertising (both 2.1). I recently left my most recent role in Dublin, Ireland as a Media Analyst, where I wrote and produced monthly and quarterly creative advertising reports for the telecoms, financial and retail industries respectively. Here, I would highlight what the current leading advertising campaigns were for the main companies within the chosen industry and I would outline their key messages.

I spent two years as a Market Strategy Officer for Allied Irish Bank in Bank centre, Dublin while working in a highly competitive sponsorship team. Here, we aimed specifically at attracting major corporate and sporting events to the AIB brand. The highlight of my time working for AIB was working on the Ryder Cup 2006 event, ensuring that our brand appeared around all four corners of Ireland, promoting AIB as chief sponsors of the Ryder Cup that year. Also during my time working there, I was responsible for updating our website on a weekly basis, issuing press releases in addition to tendering contracts for potential clients. The job included a lot of writing, producing and proof-reading documents for in-branch merchandising, from brochures and flyers for the company to speeches for members of the Dublin Chamber of Commerce. I also wrote on a monthly basis for AIB's internal magazine, The Teller.
In January 2009, I completed a Masters in Creative Advertising in the Dublin Institute of Technology with a grade 2.1. The course brought to light aspects of my personality namely, creativity, strategy, confidence, determination and perseverance. My experience in AIB pushed me to pursue the Masters in Advertising, which I felt would further my qualifications and experience. I strongly believe that my positive attitude, excellent conceptual skills and background in both Journalism & Creative Advertising will allow me to be a valuable asset to any agency.

I have enclosed my CV for your consideration. I welcome the opportunity to meet with you in person to discuss how my qualifications and experiences can be of help to you. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at or by e-mail at XXXXX. If you feel that you may have an interest in my CV/previous experience I'd be more than happy to come and meet. Looking forward to hearing from you.

All the best,

Barry McSweeney
