About me
I recently graduated from Birmingham City University with a first-class bachelor's degree in Film and Screenwriting. This degree included research-based modules (where research and essay-writing were my primary focuses), practical modules (where I collaborated with students from courses such as the animation course and the film-making course to create short films and television episodes), and writing modules (where we learned about a particular film/TV genre, such as horror or dramedy, and were tasked with writing an episode/film in that genre).
The research based modules helped me to perfect my investigative skills and formal-writing skills, whilst the practical modules taught me how to use the Green Room, DaVinci Resolve, and several camera models, all of which I am now qualified in at my University. Making a film as a group also forced me into roles I hadn't previously considered such as acting and second AD, as well as developing my teamwork and in particular my response to criticism. I now feel that if displeased I can make my opinion heard in a way that won't offend, and am confident that my approach to people will make them open to sharing any worries/criticism they have with me. Working on-set with like-minded students later made me pursue volunteering work at my local theatre, in which I am a sound/light technician.
The writing modules taught me about films throughout the ages, and different movements around the world; it increased my appreciation for cinema/TV and, when I write screenplays, I often try to emulate the writing of great screenwriters whose films made me feel the emotions I would like my reader to feel. For my final University Project I had to write a feature-film screenplay of any genre and a reflective commentary complete with a reference list, explaining why I wrote what I did.
I currently have several screenplays in the works: two dramedy TV shows and two horror feature films.
