About me
I am a South African photojournalist, visual storyteller, and documentary filmmaker based in Cape Town. For more than a decade, I have dedicated my career to documenting the people, places, and events that shape our society. My work is driven by a simple belief: every person has a story worth telling, and powerful visual storytelling has the ability to inform, inspire, and create meaningful change.
My journey into photojournalism began after experiencing the London bombings on 7 July 2005. Witnessing history unfold before my eyes sparked a passion for documenting real events and the resilience of ordinary people living through extraordinary moments. That experience set me on a path that would take me from fashion photography in the Middle East to the front lines of breaking news and humanitarian storytelling across South Africa.
I have worked as a photojournalist and picture editor for Independent Media and the African News Agency, covering everything from political developments and social justice issues to natural disasters, environmental crises, protests, elections, crime, and major sporting and cultural events. These experiences taught me the importance of accuracy, ethics, and empathy, while reinforcing the responsibility that comes with documenting history as it happens.
Today, I work as a freelance visual journalist and documentary filmmaker, producing compelling multimedia stories for Primedia while continuing to develop long-form documentary and editorial projects. My work combines photography, cinematography, drone imagery, and written journalism to create immersive visual narratives that connect audiences with issues that matter.
I am the founder of The Humans Narrative, a visual storytelling platform created to celebrate the resilience, diversity, and humanity of people from all walks of life. Through this project, I have documented inspiring individuals and communities whose stories often go untold, believing that authentic storytelling can bridge divides and foster understanding. The project was recognised as a finalist in the Nedbank Business Ignite Awards, reinforcing my commitment to using visual media as a force for positive impact.
Throughout my career I have covered some of South Africa's most significant stories, from devastating wildfires and floods to social movements, migration, environmental conservation, and community resilience. Whether I am documenting a family rebuilding after disaster, conservationists protecting endangered wildlife, or communities fighting for dignity and justice, I strive to produce work that is honest, respectful, and deeply human.
My passion extends beyond news coverage. I am increasingly focused on documentary filmmaking that explores environmental conservation, human rights, and social impact. I believe that slowing down and spending time with people allows for richer, more meaningful stories that go beyond headlines and reveal the complexity of the human experience.
My photography and films have reached audiences through newspapers, digital media, television, and social media, where my work continues to engage thousands of people around the world. I am equally passionate about creating editorial stock imagery and video that documents history as it unfolds, preserving moments that may one day become part of our collective memory.
At the heart of everything I do is a commitment to authenticity. I approach every assignment with curiosity, compassion, and respect for the people who trust me to tell their stories. Whether covering breaking news, producing a documentary, or creating an intimate portrait, my goal remains the same: to create visual stories that inform, move, and inspire while giving a voice to those who might otherwise go unheard.
For me, photography has never simply been about taking pictures. It is about bearing witness, preserving history, and reminding us of our shared humanity. Every frame is an opportunity to connect people through stories that matter, and that purpose continues to guide my work every day.
