Dear Sir/Madam,
Im currently working as the Senior User Experience Designer for RIA Design experts Nice Agency. I work on various projects ranging from delivery via digital mobile (iOS, Android, Air etc), websites (ajax/flex/flash) for a range of clients, including Channel 4 (4oD), Readers Digest, Homebase and IBM. Working closely with the client to understand their requirements, ideas or initial concepts. Depending on the scope I then translate and interpret these myself, be that alone or within a cross-skilled team, working through a suitable UX process. Alternatively I can pass work through to the middleweight or junior UX positions overseeing their progress at key stages. In either scenario I regularly work closely with developers and visual designers to deliver a solution.
The way in which I resolve design and/or usability issues (and interpret solutions back to the dev/design teams) depends on the nature of the project but generally it follows a tried and tested process. I typically start by creating, analysing and digesting all the available data with regards to the particular focus (customer feedback/design specs/heuristic evaluation/product requirements/test results). I then apply this to a hand drawn sketch on paper, which could be an end-to-end user journey, process flow diagram or general design idea. This gets reviewed before being transferred the screen using either Omnigraffle (my preferred wireframing tool), Balsamiq and/or CS5 should more detail be required. If I need to test or validate any interactive aspects I build a demonstrable prototype using HTML, CSS, front-end coding (jQuery) or Flash. For GUI/UX solutions I can, and do, run usability tests at any given stage during this process.
Previously I was the Senior Usability Design Engineer for the market leading ALM software solutions company Serena. During this time I successfully updated and extensively refreshed the $20m+ revenue-generating flagship Dimensions product; vastly improving usability, streamlining the internal architecture and redesigning the much outdated Client user interfaces. Serena software solutions are currently used by numerous global manufacturers (Nokia, Aviva, Saab), international banks (HSBC, Natixis) and U.S Governmental departments (NASA, Navy).
Prior to working specifically as a usability design engineer I have over 10 years experience working as a creative graphic/web designer for several design agencies and departments. It was during this time that I was able to refine my graphic design, conceptual and front end development skills and combine them with interactivity, accessibility and usability. My client list to date includes successful creative solutions for Channel 4 (4oD), Homebase, IBM, Barclaycard, LloydsTSB, Ericsson, Readers Digest, The Children's Society, Tesco, hsbc.co.uk, Sony, Roadsure, loans.co.uk & Coca-cola, amongst others.
