About me
I did my degree at Wimbledon College of Arts. My university course was very practical and familiarized me with all stages of costume production - from design and research to construction and embellishment of the garment. In my final year I challenged myself to make complicated garments - for example, a 1912 corset from Norah Waugh's book and a 16th century Russian kaftan made of silk velvet, which was very difficult to work with. Last year I received Ann Hollowood prize for my designs and costumes.
The skills and knowledge I got in college allowed me to endevour to both design and make period costumes for a graduate film without the supervision and assistance from my tutors.
Prior to my final year in college I learned pearl-work embroidery techniques in order to make a historically-accurate reconstruction of a Russian folk headdress for my dissertation project. I developed my skills further this year by completing a self-directed project - a recreation of another headdress, which took 170 hours to make. My embroidery skills and interest in surface decorations were utilized when I did my internship at a fashion company. I worked on several beadwork and embroidery projects. For example, we produced Easter bonnets covered with silk flowers, crystals and pearls.
