About me

I have had a love of writing for as long as I can remember. As a child, I would write short stories for my parents (the comedy tale of a bank robber and his ditzy female accomplice was a favourite of Dad's), and I guess the love has never really left me. I recently completed a BA in Professional Writing at University with a First Class honours degree. The course covered all aspects of professional writing including script writing, research and observation, prose, sequential art (comic books to you and I), and nonfiction, with the latter being my particular speciality. I do love a challenge, though, so throw a curve ball job at me. In September 2017 I'll embark on the next part of my education as I study a Marketing MSC.

I left my job in retail two years ago to follow my dream to be a writer, so I'm looking to gain professional experience in the writing industry. I came late to my degree (I'm 34), and it was a decision that was influenced by becoming a parent. I have a three-year-old son and a devoted partner. Parenthood made me readdress my life to see how I could make sure I am a positive role model for my boy. This is why I am focused on succeeding as a writer, to show my son that with hard work and dedication, you can achieve your goals in life.

I have previous experience of feature writing in journalism, having worked on a voluntary basis for a local magazine called Insight. I may not have got paid, but the work at the magazine gave me a great deal of information on how a successful publication is produced and was totally invaluable. I have now also gained a steady stream of work online since embarking on my writing journey in 2015. This has given me a steep learning curve, as well as all important experience of working as a jobbing writer. There is still so much to learn, and I am enjoying every moment of working with clients and providing the best service I can for them while gaining experience in a wide range of fields including copywriting and proof reading.

Before my previous retail role, I worked for the DWP for six years on various tasks dealing with everyone from employers advertising vacancies to people wishing to report benefit fraud to immigrants requiring assistance with national insurance applications. I liaised with various DWP sites throughout the UK, helped manage a database and provided administrative support to over 200 people on site. I also provided a proof reading service to the 100+ staff on site for their job descriptions. Time management was essential, and strict deadlines were often involved. I am used to juggling many tasks at the same time successfully. This is also reflected in my private life as a mother, full-time student, and self-employed worker.

I had other administrative roles before my time at the DWP, dealing with telephone calls, sorting mail, word processing sensitive legal documents and other general administrative tasks as required.

I thank you for looking at my profile. I know that making a decision about who writes for you is a difficult one. Will the writer get the style right

If you'd like to hire me, that's fantastic! I always look forward to new projects, the trickier, the better. I promise to give you the best piece of work I can produce. Well researched, well organised and hopefully at a competitive price, after all, I am still a student. Everything I earn through Creative Pool is going towards providing a better life for my family and contributing to my primary source of income.
