About me

Dear Sir/Madam,

I am writing to apply for a position as a designer or art director in the design department in your firm. I am 29 years old and currently the art director at BasecampVFX (), a boutique CGI, design and post -production facility in Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia). I have thoroughly enjoyed my term at BasecampVFX, but unfortunately have left the company upon my return home to Melbourne, where I have continued my duties for them on a freelance basis.

In addition to my current occupation I have gained considerable industry experience as a senior broadcast designer, animator, illustrator and motion graphics artist for APV (Asia-Pacific Video lab 2003), and Malaysia's largest post production facility. Principal duties here included design for TVC, feature film, and print design for both commercial and in house marketing purposes. Prior to my experience at APV, I worked as a freelance designer and motion graphics artist for Mau Design in Melbourne (2002). This immediately followed my graduation as a Bachelor of Multimedia Design at Swinburne National School of Design (2002).

My experiences at both BasecampVFX (*) and APV have significantly broadened my industry skills, applying both technical and conceptual skills in the art direction, production and development of TVC, corporate videos, feature film and advertising campaigns for both international and South-East Asian markets. Current and regular clients include Maxis Telecommunications,Digi, , GSC Cinemas, Pantene, Schwann Stabilo, UOB, Nokia, Pepsi and Follow Me. My role as art director entailed not only concept development and design, but also regular participation in presentation to clients, directors, producers and subsequent supervision of staff and internal scheduling. I work closely with animators, operators, modelers and compositors in the production of special effects and various forms and styles of animation.

I also have explored many other interests outside of design and advertising, having trained as a classical chef and hospitality manager at William Angliss (1997), and successfully completed 2 years of Commerce/arts at Melbourne University (1996). My experiences in hospitality and design have taught me the importance of both presentation and customer skills.

I would very much like to work for a business that pursues excellence and maintains the utmost professionalism over a varied range of jobs. I work well with people and have a courteous, helpful and honest approach. I believe I can be of benefit to your business, and am available on a full-time or part-time basis.

Yours sincerely

Andrew Lim
