About me
Ever since studying Art at high school, I have always wanted to be involved in visual communication, further inspired when my parents bought me an old Olympus Trip 35 camera. My basic interest in image making became the major catalyst in choosing to attend College in order to practice and understand a more theoretical approach to image making by studying an ND and HND in Photography consecutively.
After developing my technique and knowledge at college, I swiftly became interested in informing and documenting, not only just photographing subjects simply because of how aesthetically pleasing they look. In my work whilst at University, taking photographs that inform the viewer and leave people with answers rather than questions has been something that I've always aimed to do.
In between College and University, I began working closely with a monthly music magazine photographing live bands and musicians in studios and on location. I was also contributing to a number of DIY (Do It Yourself) music culture magazines as well as receiving fairly regular commissions from bands that required art-work producing for records. I went on to have work regularly published in Kerrang! Magazine, Metal Hammer, Rock Sound and Terrorizer.
Whilst studying my degree, my persistence and determination to succeed as a photographer has seen me travel around Iceland in continuation of a personal assignment for my Final Major Project documenting the country's people and its music. Whilst there, I was invited to cover the Icelandic adaptation of Andrew Lloyd Webber's Jesus Christ Superstar at The Reykjavik City Theatre. Upon my return to the UK in May 2008, I received a nomination from the D&AD Student Awards for sensitively exploring the varying facets of Dementia through photography and also got the chance to work with British actor, Paddy Considine (Dead Man's Shoes, The Bourne Ultimatum).
The purpose for going back to University in 2007 was not only to obtain a BA, but to asses where I want to go in my career, explore a wider subject range, strengthen my existing weaknesses and gain a greater understanding of what was I was trying to say with Photography. I enjoy observing and interacting with different people from varying cultures and walks of life and I trust that this shows within my work.
Between 2010 and 2015 I have been working for Lloyds Banking Group, originally as an administrative assistant within the Bereavement Unit, handling individual case loads and settling deceased customers estates. I have progressed quite quickly within the bank, dealing directly with customers, solicitors and varying stakeholders, to my current position as team leader within the Power of Attorney department where I now hold greater responsibilities. I feel during my time working with the company, I have acquired many transferable skills such as; management and leadership skills, the ability to motivate colleagues, problem solving and negotiation; public speaking and delivery.
