About me

RE: Surface Pattern Designer

Please find attached a copy of my C.V for the aforementioned position.

I found your job listing and was compelled to apply based on the list of requirements, details and impress clients Creative Tops works with.

I have enjoyed a varied career and believe that the breadth of my experience has served me well in becoming a capable, well rounded designer and leader. This was particularly true during my time as a consultant designer working for Design Compendium in New York. As the senior designer and design manager I was tasked with running a studio of 5 designers as well as managing my own personal projects. Working on retail design projects for high-end fashion, travel and lifestyle brands my role was to manage, mentor, train and lead the creative process with clients and in house designers to completion. Whether this be a product roll out or production run. An in store installation or a promotional campaign/ design.

My career with surface/interior design has been focused whilst working as a senior surface designer for Artistic Tile, Inc. The company's in house design studio designs, develops and manufactures its own proprietary designs of which my role was at the very epicenter of this process. This allowed me to work closely on many pattern designs for a variety of materials and technical industrial processes. This helped me understand and manage the delicate balance of time, manufacturing constraints, costs and client needs to produce quality results time and again. I have been lucky enough to receive 2x Interior Design Magazine's Best of Year (BOY) Awards for surface design. My work in pattern design has continued greatly and my knowledge of commercial application, overseas manufacturing for both small and large volume production has become a cornerstone of my skills.

In a juxtaposition to this, working as a consultant for numerous Theme Park attractions and brands over the years has allowed me to gain a broader sense of the customer experience. I have gained an increasing sense of how to apply logical methodology to my work and to interpret client requirements with meaningful and thoughtful solutions. This has also given me a very practical, hands on approach and understanding of designing for construction and manufacture whilst working closely with contractors and builders on such projects. I am proud to say I have worked on both Titanic: The Legend Continues projects, Disney, Longleat Safari Park, Alton Towers, etc.

I considered myself very adept at liaising with clients and developing designs that are practical, applicable and above all desirable to both client and intended markets. I feel as though these attributes along with my experience and specific pattern design expertise would allow me to develop further with a company such as yours.

Please feel free to contact me, as I am keen to show you examples of my work and explain my full range of skills and experience in person.

Best regards,

Andrew Bartlett.
