About me

Dear Sir/Madam,

I would like to be considered as an applicant for the Account Executive (Events) vacancy as advertised on . In support of my application please find attached my completed curriculum vitae, detailing the relevant skills and experience that I would bring to the post.

I have extensive experience of working without supervision, setting up and running my own events and campaigns, liaising with marketing to ensure they were targeted correctly. I organised and successfully ran Newcastle University's Graduation Ball, increasing attendance by 20% on the previous year, and making a £2,500 surplus for the first time ever, as previously the event had always made a deficit. I also ran a string of other successful events, including Fresher's Fair (5,000 attendees), awards ceremonies for between attendees, a dance marathon in aid of paediatric oncology and an International Festival of Arts and Music. In my end of year review at my previous job, my events goals were marked by the directors as 'exceeded'. For every event I ensured the marketing campaigns were correctly targeted and wrote the content for all, at one point even organising a photoshoot myself as I felt the marketing images were unrelatable to the target audience, and I credit this with the 20% increase in attendance for the Graduation Ball.

Thinking strategically is one of my strong points, and I was trusted along with the team of five other Sabbatical Officers to create the strategic plan for for Newcastle University Student's Union; analysing data from surveys to improve of the previous plan.

Also relevant to this role is my first class degree in Media, Communications and Cultural Studies from Newcastle University, including modules in Public Relations, Online Communications and Professional Communications, which I thoroughly enjoyed and led me into this line of work. My previous experience as a sub-editor for a newspaper means that I can apply my editing and copywriting skills to writing effective copy for campaigns, always centred on the target audience to achieve maximum results. In my previous role I managed and updated all my own 'public figure' social media, including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and writing weekly blogs, analysing the reach of all of these channels, constantly improving my social media presence.

In my 360 review of my current job, I have been described as an 'ideas girl' with an enterprising outlook, who sees barriers as things to be overcome. I have also been noted as, 'very personable' and 'easy to work with'- essential when dealing with external clients and working efficiently in a team.

I really admire Creative Resource because of the ethos of face to face meetings, which I feel is essential; excellent relationships can't be built up over email.

I welcome any opportunity to further discuss my application in depth at interview, and look forward to hearing from you soon.

Yours sincerely,

Amy Macauley
