About me
Design has been at the very core of my work for the last seven years. Since the beginning of my career I have been solely responsible for a number of major projects and have always been relied upon to manage my own time. My last two jobs have been in small organisations that have grown and developed significantly during my time. One of my roles in this growth and development involved me taking a creative brief to design a new/stronger brand. Having created/strengthened the brand I enabled both businesses to exploit new opportunities. This was achieved by being organised, by planning effectively and delivering what was needed.
(As well as the occasional bit of fire fighting!)
Having worked as a marketer I am only too familiar with the high-pressure environment of a small theatre. Roles are often shared and combined, hence my extensive design work; there is nowhere to hide in a team of four staff working on as many as sixty productions a year. I have to be proactive, pulling the disparate elements of a project together into a unified end product. This improves the overall level of work for the team and requires organization and communication; both skills I possess.
As a designer I am able both to create and recreate. In addition to innovating new designs from concept to actualisation, I have applied existing images across the widest possible range of spaces. These range from urban billboards, production posters, programmes and all on-line/website collateral. I manage the relationships between Tara Arts and all the print suppliers, the outdoor advertising companies Primesite, JCDecaux and CBS Outdoor, and occasionally source specialist suppliers for one-off events. The joy of working in a small, busy London theatre company is that you have no choice but to multitask and multi-skill.
Tara Arts have relationships with International Educational Internship Programmes. As well as liaising with these Programmes, I interview, manage and mentor the interns. Delegation allows the interns to develop skills, making them feel creatively challenged and stimulated whilst ensuring the work of the theatre is being done.
In terms of practical skills, I have an in-depth knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite. I am familiar with working in content management systems having recently project managed the switchover to the new Tara Arts site *, right down to the wire frames. I edited and rationalised the old website and combined it with the new content. I then poured this into the new website within the space of two weeks. I continue to manage the website on a weekly basis.
