About me
Hello
My name is Amy Zaaiman and I live in London with my husband. I am originally from Cape Town, South Africa, and am 28 years old. Until recently, I worked as a shop assistant and plant consultant at Pearspring Houseplants and Botanical Goods in East Dulwich. Though I have an in-depth knowledge and understanding of indoor horticultural matters, my real passion lies in cinema.
In 2012 I completed my undergraduate Bachelor's degree in Film Production, Film Theory and English Literature. In 2016 I qualified with my postgraduate degree in Film and Television studies - both degrees were obtained from the University of Cape Town. Before leaving what we call "The Mother City", I worked as a full-time film industry freelancer. I am mainly experienced as a production co-ordinator, but my jobs have also included cast co-ordinator, art director, as well as academic film tutor at UCT.
My capabilities therefore include a practical and scholarly experience of film and its processes, English and writing proficiency, extensive administrative skills, as well as an understanding of how to interact with people in a professional and encouraging manner. As my degrees and position as production co-ordinator reflect, I am adept at in-depth research, organisation and the production of written and visual text. Regular and intense deadlines in the film and academic world have fostered my efficiency and honed my hard-working ethics. The creation of my own films in my undergraduate degree lead to a greater comprehension of the curation of images (I also have a love of visual art) and the progression of narrative. I would describe myself as someone with visual literacy.
Professional pursuits aside, my love of the cinematic medium is evident. I have my own film, creative writing and poetry blog. My film reviews have also been published in print and online. I have a keen interest in how film reflects and informs the complexities of society. My postgraduate thesis was an analysis of the themes of female identity and performance in Agnes Varda's 'Cleo from 5 to 7', for example. I truly believe that film plays a vital role in how we comprehend the world we exist in; has far-reaching reverberations and is therefore extremely important.
Thank you for considering my application. I look forward to hearing from you.
Sincerely,
Amy Zaaiman
