About me

I am a web and multimedia designer with a special focus in creating
effective, inclusive and engaging online experiences for public
services, charities and cultural institutions.
People call me Alf.

Until January 2010 I worked at Reading Room (London and Manchester)
covering senior/lead design roles. At the moment I am completing a MSc
in Human Computer Interaction at Lancaster University in order to
become a user experience designer. During my five years at Reading Room
I had the opportunity to work with a wide range of large and medium
organisations and developed a genuine understanding of the complex
issues involved in the creation of compelling and usable online
services.
As a visual designer, I am fully aware that digital interfaces are
very fragile products that have to harmonise an extraordinary and
intricate interplay of requirements, behaviours and constraints
(including the politics of an organisation). At the same time, I design
in order to let the content emerge into a tangible experience.
As a creative practitioner, my main objective is making people
curious. In fact, I provide them with solutions that are appealing to
their eyes but are also challenging to their minds. Moreover, I think
that effective design solutions are the ones that support exploratory
behaviours and goal oriented tasks. Design has a fourth dimension too,
time. More precisely, I like to produce scenario based visualisations,
and I usually deliver my ideas through engaging interactive narratives.
In addition, I firmly believe that the overall design process can be
dramatically improved by learning from film-making and music. The high
level of consistency, flow and orchestration we normally experience
within these practices is a key factor for any outstanding user
experience.
Finally, I am extremely proactive and capable of working
independently on multiple projects at strict deadlines. I am
particularly proficient in conceptual designs for new businesses and
have a considerable record of successful solutions that made the
difference. Nevertheless, my work has been also appreciated for its
strong focus on usability. I am also known for my enthusiasm,
commitment and versatility.
Why me
producing meaningful and unforgettable experiences. My clients often
reported that my work exceeded their expectations and also appreciated
the “bravery” of my ideas. I have been often told I truly
understand any creative brief and that my solutions are
“absolutely spotted on”. Nevertheless, I am also confident
in going beyond the brief whenever necessary and love to surprise the
people I work with.
