Alexandra's work

About Alexandra

To whom it may concern,

My name is Alexandra Walker, I have just relocated to London from New Zealand to "take on" the London Fashion scene.

I graduated in 2009 with a Bachelor of Design (Hons), majoring in Fashion Design at Massey University Wellington, New Zealand.

My first job was with Karen Walker International, one of New Zealand's leading fashion designers whom I spent four years with. Starting off as an Intern, landing a job as Karen's Personal Assistant and then spending the following years as part of the sample room, as the Sample Room Assistant. Working on four collections a year, weekly fitting, look books, line sheets, quality control and junior pattering making / cutting. My last honour at Karen Walker was partaking in her AW15 show at New York Fashion Week from development to runway.

After Karen Walker I decided to explore the ready to wear side of the industry. I accepted a role at Glassons as a Design Assistant. The Deign Department had only been around for a year prior to my arrival and the team was very lean. It was exciting to be part of this new adventure. As Design Assistant I worked closely with all parts of the company from the design manger, print designer, buyers, graphic designers, visual merchandises production, garment technicians and store girls. Externally working with suppliers, advertising agencies, media and bloggers. I have seen my designs come to life and sold throughout the New Zealand and Australia and have been a crucial part in the development and expansion of Edt. Glassons boutique label.

Time spent at Karen Walker and Glassons taught me a vast amount. I acquired valuable skills that I believe will make me an ideal employee for any fashion role. I have broad understanding of the key responsibilities asked for in this role such as, I'm able to work as part of a team as well as independently, the importance of time keeping and attention to detail, effective time management skills, being creative minded, a keen eye for detail, hard working, communication skills, honest, ambitious, motivated and reliable.

Working in both areas of High Fashion and Ready to Wear has given me a vast knowledge of the fashion industry. This knowledge allows me to understand the target market I am designing, for high end or fast fashion / ready to wear.

I am very eager for new responsibilities and greater challenges, as I feel have more to offer, creatively and technically. In 2010 my final years work "Between The Lines" was selected for the Emerging Designer Awards at i.D Dunedin. It explored distorting silhouettes through black and white stripes, an obsession of mine. Earlier in 2012 year I was awarded 1st runner up for the 'Fashion Quarterly Young Designer Competition' with the same collection.

My passionate is for fashion, I am committed to push myself and the creative assistant role, to the next level. I am ready to take on the London Fashion Industry on and see what happens. I have confidences I will slot in
