About me
In my most recent role at National Geographic Kids, I took full responsibility for multiple magazine pages and created lots of web features. I researched and wrote about nature, conservation, science, history, pop culture, social issues and more. This meant I had to keep up to date with news and trends, and it regularly required me to communicate technical or sensitive subject matter to our young audience and their parents by producing clear, concise, and engaging copy.
I also worked with partners like Sony Entertainment, LEGO, Netflix, Chester Zoo, Pokémon, Penguin, Surrey County Cricket Club and many more to create bespoke advertorials. I collaborated with the advertisers to follow briefs or generate ideas, then write content that matched their tone of voice. I would provide design suggestions for print ads and upload online ads to our WordPress site, following SEO best practices. My expertise helped deliver high-quality results that exceeded expectations and drove engagement and revenue for the company.
As manager of the brand's UK, Ireland, and Australia social media accounts, I created exciting original content. I used Canva and Photoshop to edit images and occasionally edited videos with Adobe Premiere Pro. I collaborated closely with the marketing team to plan campaigns, create promotional material and track key statistics to improve performance.
I had to form close working relationships with external parties as well, allowing me to do things like arrange press trips plus celebrity interviews with people like Daniel Radcliffe and Paul O'Grady, source competition prizes and imagery, and request fact-checking.
Juggling these many creative responsibilities plus various administrative tasks, each with deadlines that came thick and fast proves that I can work effectively under high pressure.
My experience in other positions shows that I am easily able to modify my tone of voice when writing, too. It also shows that I'm highly adaptable. For example, in my role at Thomson Reuters, I had to construct rotas, triage legal queries, train new staff members and fix technical CMS issues. Plus, at BCC Promotions, I had sub-edit the work of contributors, write press releases, and source advertising partners before writing content for them.
