About me
ALEXA CHIA WAN YU was born and raised in Singapore and moved to New York in 2012 to pursue a career in the arts. She studied Fashion Design at Parsons the New School of Design, graduating with a Bachelor of Fine Arts with Honors degree in 2017. Throughout her time at Parsons, her focus has largely been in Menswear but her interest in leather goods and accessories has also resulted in her taking on additional training in the field of Handbag and Footwear design. Alexa has also attended an exchange program with the menswear department at Central Saint Martins back in 2015.
Alexa has always been inspired by the world around her and promotes not seeing fashion as a singular entity but in fact to blur the lines between traditional distinctions. Her latest menswear collection strives to break the conservative stereotype of the industry, this being done through pushing atypical silhouettes and unconventional self-developed textiles. The designs boast a daring and extroverted approach to Menswear that sets itself apart from current contemporary fashion offerings.
To Alexa, fashion is more of a form of art and expression and she appreciates the value of craftsmanship and attention to detail. Over the years, her work has been featured in numerous international press outlets including top fashion publications such as Vogue, WWD, and Dezeen Magazine to name a few.
Her latest industry experience includes working for a wide range of luxury fashion brands such as Proenza Schouler, Alexander Wang, The Row, Nicholas K, Edun and Coach.
As a fresh recipient of the honorary UK Tier 1 Exceptional Talent visa, Alexa will now be based in London, UK and is seeking full time employment in the fields of design.
