About me
Please find enclosed my CV in application for the Web Designer role.
From the young age of 13, I began to find interest in digital design. I self taught myself how to write HTML and CSS code and designed multiple websites for small businesses and fansites. I can now say that I am proficient in HTML5, CSS3 and Javascript/JQuery. I also have excellent knowledge of Content Management Systems, such as Wordpress, PHP and am currently training in multiple .js frameworks. Whilst being equipped with these skills, respectively my degree did not mainly focus on digital design expertise. Therefore in 2014, I enrolled on the Web Course at Shillington College. After years of focus being on my Bachelors degree, I felt that I needed a crash course in web development to bring me up to date. During the course, I learnt about responsive design, coding for all media platforms and by the end I had produced my own website () that showcases my skills.
Currently, I am a Web Designer at Consumer Services Direct. They brought me on to work alongside the Senior Designer and bring my up to date design skills and knowledge to the table. I made all of the companies sites responsive and gave propositions on how I could re-design them and bring them to the forefront of web design. Whilst there, I have helped design websites for Gordon Lockwood, Damsons Future Planning, Recruitment North West and Conquer Training to name a few. I also re-designed the entire Intranet in Sharepoint to make it more detailed and attractive to their employees. Daily tasks that I take on consist of designing responsive emails, landing pages and using the Adobe Creative Suite to create posters, business cards, banners etc. If I get a spare minute, I use that time on training using sites such as Lynda. At Consumer Services Direct, the deadlines are very tight and the production has to be quick.
I consider myself both a web developer and a web designer. If I could just develop, I would be frustrated that I couldn't design the web myself and vice versa. My other interests include popular culture - fashion, music and film. Hence why I studied Journalism at University of the Arts London as writing about pop culture has always been a passion of mine.
Thank you for your time and I look forward to hearing from you soon.
Kind Regards,
Alastair Shone
