About me
Dear Sir/Madam,
I am writing to apply for the Junior Graphic Designer position with Brandtastic.
I am currently in the final year of a BA in Typography and Graphic Communication at the University of Reading, due to graduate in July 2012. I am a talented and creative designer with strong computer and manual design skills and the ability to create designs that work, both for the designer and the client alike.
Throughout my degree I have worked on a range of different projects that have tested my skills including creating flexible brand identities that work across a multitude of different applications in print and on-screen, conceptualisation through to artworking, information design, illustrations and large-scale banners. These projects have not only required consideration of design aesthetics, but also production issues in creating press-ready files.
During my time at University, I have undertaken real jobs for real clients including creating a colourful, inspiring and flexible brand identity for the Hackney Yoga Project as part of Good For Nothing - a social mission that aims to provide time, effort and money to worthy causes to make a change for the better. Through this I gained experience in working closely with designers and clients alike, building up strong relationships with both, and creating and pitching client presentations with Apple Keynote. I have also recently worked closely with the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) to create a large display exhibition showcasing research into how planning the plants in an urban garden can have huge benefits to the urban environment. I thoroughly enjoyed creating the display, from creating watercolour artwork to be scanned and edited in Photoshop, to ensuring the science and typography was interesting and eye-catching to seeing the final display up and in place at the Chelsea Flower Show this year.
I have also completed an internship at the University's Design and Print Studio; an experience I found invaluable. I learnt how to be creative whilst still keeping within the brand guidelines, following through multiple jobs from start to finish, interacting with clients and learning how to create press-ready files for a smooth handover to production.
I have a very strong typographic grounding with a keen interest in illustration. I have an eye for detail and have extensive knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite including InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop, along with a working knowledge of Acrobat Professional and Microsoft Office, with a basic knowledge of Adobe Dreamweaver and After Effects.
Examples of my work can be found at aimihill.tumblr.com. PDF copies of my work can also be provided on request.
Yours Sincerely,
Aimi Hill
