About me

During my university course I was tackling a very broad range of briefs, ranging from magazine design to animation. Projects like this gave me insight into a lot of different techniques and ways of working and allowed me to flex my creativity in new areas. From speaking to tutors and from real life experiences I have learnt that the best way to improve as an artist and as a designer is to constantly learn new skills. Learning new skills while approaching a brief keeps your mind open and makes your ideas much more vibrant and fresh.

After graduating I began working freelance on some very exciting and rewarding projects. I produced a range of flyers for an independent record label promoting their club nights. They gave me a lot of creative freedom, the night was called "Do Not Conform" and I produced a series of illustrations along that theme. I kept my work broad by also doing projects like a sign for a clothes shop, along with all their receipt cards and bags and a logo for a small business. The range of projects I was doing kept me stimulated because I was always working in different styles, with varying messages to communicate, which made me really playful and made the briefs fun.

The work I did as a freelancer gained me a position in an events company as their designer. This role was hugely beneficial to my development as I was given a lot of responsibility to a large workload. It was my task to oversee, design and produce all the promotional and in-race material for an event called the "Rat Race". This included things like banners, flyers, posters, signs, sponsorship boards, site plans, maps and invites. These made me learn new techniques as I was using the programmes in new ways to do technical maps and text-heavy team biography boards. I was involved with the whole process, from concept and design through to preparing artwork for print which was very satisfying and gave me insight and experience in a lot of aspects of design.

My most recent work has become more and more culturally aware and it is an area I am fascinated in. What binds us together as people whilst also giving us individual identities
