About me

Living in the Forest of Dean has influenced and expanded my interest beyond my first love The Sea. I grew up living along the south coast including the Isle of Wight then returned to my birth town, Brighton where I gained a BA at the then College of Art Grand Parade.

I have made all sorts of images and 3D objects. Sold and exhibited art work, textiles, pen and ink, oil, acrylic and paper and character design. I now wish to see if anyone would like to employ me for illustration work. I am full of ideas and will never run out of them.

A thought - filling in the boxes about myself for the Profile - How to rate myself

I have worked as a soft toy designer in UK toy factories for some years, which was intense and meant I had to see to the toy fairs as well as the designing of the toys and materials. Next as a freelance prop maker for BBC and ITV. I was once asked by a Welsh farmers' collective to sculpt a cow out of butter during the summer which was a battle against melting, thank goodness for ice-packs. Past work includes a range of children's furniture and various bags for the Museums of Wales.

A garden materials supplier ask me to use as many of their products as possible for a large display in the NEC Birmingham. They liked it.

Bizarrely I remember a moment whenever a reference to the Twin Towers is made. I was loading the display onto a lorry for delivery when my daughter, ill off from school, yelled out about the plane crashing into the tower

Strange how links to art making and physical moments work. When making an artwork and listening to a radio play, often days, months and sometimes years afterwards looking at that artwork I hear fragments of the play.

Wonder if that experience is the basis for magic and totems. (I don't believe in magic myself but as so many artworks are meant to hold spirits and wishes, I have to acknowledge that many people do believe).

I write, in fact love it even though I am dyslexic, computers release my thoughts without the hurdles of worry getting all the letters in the correct place

A image or artwork will promote a thought which I wish to expand with words.

I am writing a novel at present and have written several others, none so far published. I haven't really made much effort to do so as the process to approach agents and publishers seems so complex. That could be seen as a flaw, if so I am Flawed.

I like sci-fi, detective and end of the world fiction. Mick Herron, David Mitchell, Ian Banks and Ian M Banks, so many others, plus animal and nature reference books. I need more book-shelves.

I am aware this About Me is not a conventional commercial one. That again a flaw which I can not do much about. That sounds arrogant it is not, it is just that I am beyond worrying about how to present myself which has been mostly wasted time.

I live mainly in my head which is lucky as I am a poor traveller. I should mention that I have had two liver transplants due to auto immune disease not to, too much wine. This had given me a certain outlook on life, working out the What is Important and What is Bogus. I am keen on working for the social good as apposed to personal gain.
