About me
A bit about me and my work:
I was born and raised in Portsmouth, Hampshire, UK and have not ventured too far from my home town. I studied at Portsmouth University and have a BA (Hons) in Fine Art. I have worked in the Education & Community Sector for over 6 years where I have gained a truly unique insight into our relationship with Art.
I have an active and creative toddler who is an endless source of inspiration and joy. My long suffering fiancé and family are a consent support system and are always there for me.
From an early age I have always enjoyed Art and my relationship with Art has always been a healthy one. I realised early on in my life, while trying to cope with my dyslexia, that Art was a language in its' own right and a way I could be heard while trying to figure out the baffling English language!
A creative mind is not a linear one.
I have experimented with many Art mediums and Canvases in my time as an Artist and enjoy learning new styles and using them in an unconventional way.
My work has grown for pure expression into a more illustrative and narrative style. I have based my current work on my family, friends and my sense of humour.
From my hand-drawn images I transfer them into my trusty laptop and begin the process of bringing them to life.
For my Purfect Pets (see image 'I love you to the moon and back') I have cloned images of my cats fur to bring them to life. I use images of 'real' textures to 'colour' my characters and backgrounds. I feel this effect gives my characters a life of their own and allows children to relate the real texture with the 'real' world which is a good learning and teaching tool.
I use mine and my family's fingerprints to bring my other characters to life. I want my illustrations to feel accessible to children, who may even be encouraged to create their own fingerprint Art.
My 'online dating' illustration is a line drawing where I have used fingerprints to bring the birds to life.
