Publicis recruits Kylie Minogue as the face of their Alliance for Research in Cancer campaign

Published by

Publicis Conseil have recruited Australian singer, actress and icon Kylie Minogue to take centre stage in a new campaign designed to raise funds for, and to bolster the reputation of the Alliance for Research in Cancer, both in its native France and abroad. The majority of funds raised will be used to establish a brand new research laboratory. The campaign, which is called 'One Note Against Cancer' is based around a new song called 'Crystallize' written by Kylie specially for the project. Fans of the former Neighbours starlet and international pop star will be able to raise funds and awareness of the organisation by purchasing the song “One note at a time” through auction website eBay. As the song is made up of 4,408 notes, there are many thousands of chances for fans to bid, and as well as donating to a worthy cause, they also have the chance to literally own a piece of Kylie's back catalogue.

The campaign, which is called 'One Note Against Cancer' is based around a new song called 'Crystallize' written by Minogue specially for the project.

The campaign works through a bespoke website, which opens with a personal message from Kylie herself, who explains the concept behind the project and why it's so important to her. Users will then be taken to a spreadsheet like page, which is set up like a simple Pro Tools window. Each note for every instrument can then be selected, listened to and bid on, the total amount of each bid is set to start at €1. The winner of each note will eventually be notified and will receive not only a digital copy of the single, but also a certificate of ownership for their note. Their names will also be featured in the credits of the song's promo video, surely a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for any serious fan?

Kylie Minogue

With no media budget for the campaign, Publicis Conseil will be piggybacking on all of the singer's social media accounts, which means they will be reaching 2.6 million fans on Facebook and over 2 million followers on Twitter, as well as 400,000 on Instagram. The non-profit, non-governmental organisation was founded in 1989 and is based in the oncology unit at Tenon Hospital in Paris. Their mission is to partner with national and international research teams in developing and promoting all forms of research against cancer, in all its guises.

“They helped me, so let's help them.” Kylie Minogue

Kylie was chosen for the campaign because she herself is a breast cancer survivor, and has said that it's a fight which she wouldn't have been able to win if it wasn't for the support of APREC. As the lady herself has said; “They helped me, so let's help them.” The 'One Note' campaign is just the first stage of the initiative of course, as once the auction has finished, the full song will be released through traditional channels, and all proceeds raised will also be donated to APREC.

Benjamin Hiorns is a freelance writer and musician from the UK, who has never been much of a Kylie fan (it's all a little too happy for such a curmudgeonly soul), though he did love her duet with Nick Cave and cannot be more impressed with her efforts here.
