ABOUT

I have been drawing Isolation Monster since the beginning of lockdown to express myself emotionally. The idea of Isolation Monster is to accept that depression(/mental illness) is a part of us, and may hurt us, but that it is something that needs care and understanding.

These projects have been so close to my heart and many people have reached out to share their stories and what Isolation Monster means to them, some say they are a mascot when going out, some have said it has helped them to reframe how they think about their mental illnesses and themselves.

I’ve included anxiety monster, from a piece about how you can feel like a burden to others around you when you have issues with depression, but it also expresses my severe anxiety.

The world is still rather uncertain and it seems as though many have been isolated for a long while, which is why we need to support one another and ourselves. (The last part I find so difficult!) I still find going outside to be scary.

The dream is that Isolation Monster becomes a symbol of depression, that we can wear them, pass each other on the street and nod, knowing the other person also has problems.

I hope to bring understanding, compassion and empathy to mental health awareness, in the only way i know how: with monsters!
