This explainer video was aimed at 11-16 year old patients of Great Ormond Street Hospital to explain the concept behind genome sequencing. The aim of the film was to clearly and concisely explain the science behind this new technology and what this would practically involve for them. At the heart of the story is a girl. The film shows her and her family’s experience of having her genome sequenced and interpreted in order to help doctors diagnose her condition and decide on the best treatment. The voice over was carried out by a young patient at Great Ormond Street Hospital whose own genome had been sequenced as part of the 100,000 Genomes Project. The film was developed as part of a research project supported by the Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity.
