ABOUT
BACKGROUND
The future has a heat problem. As electronics get more powerful, someone has to make sure they can keep working. Electronic Cooling Solutions (ECS) has been solving heat problems for technology companies since 1998. Based in Silicon Valley, its engineers design, model, test and validate cooling systems for everything from medical devices to AI hardware and data centres. Clients include Google, Microsoft and NVIDIA. Much of ECS’s reputation was built through repeat work and word of mouth, yet its old identity gave little sense of the expertise behind the business.
STRATEGY
Electronics generate heat that places greater limits on what designers can build. ECS gets involved early, when solving a thermal problem can still change what a product is capable of. We made that role the centre of the brand: “Next Gen Innovation. Unlocked.”
The idea connected ECS’s depth of engineering knowledge with the ambitions of the CTOs and R&D teams it works with. It also gave us a way to explain a highly technical service in terms of what it enables. ECS removes thermal barriers so its clients can take their ideas further.
SOLUTION
The C in the new logo takes its shape from the fins of a heat sink, a component that draws heat away from electronics. Opened out, it becomes a graphic device that frames imagery, draws attention to messages and transforms one shape into another. Individual fins become lines and image masks. Repeated, they form patterns that bring movement across the identity.
Teal and violet reference the cooler ranges of thermal imagery, meeting through blue in a gradient across the mark. Black and off-white give technical information a clear setting. Selected words tilt in headlines, while imagery stays close to the products and processes ECS knows.
RESULTS
The identity gives ECS a way to show what its engineers have been doing for years. The same visual idea works across business cards, service literature and presentations, making the brand recognisable while leaving room to explain complex work. ECS can now present its expertise alongside the possibilities that expertise opens up for its clients.
