ABOUT
Linn, designers of the best music systems in the world, needed launch assets for their new-to-market, high end amplifier. Years in the making, small in size but with high power, the Linn team wanted to convey the beauty and volume of sound that the Solo 800 could produce, whilst alluding to the compact size (in comparison to US market offering) and the near-silent operation of the amp due to its clever design.
From concept creation through to production, our task was to convey the power harnessed within whilst also featuring the beautifully engineered product and near-silent operation of this incredible high-end amp.
Working closely with sales, marketing and product design teams at Linn, we developed two routes to showcase the amp. Both routes presented entirely different scenarios for the amp to live within; one abstract and explosive featuring particle simulations and dynamic light treatment; the other a more relaxing, futuristic, aspirational, and tranquil listening room setting - allowing flexibility of presentation for Linn and their various retail partners.
We kept in mind the juxtaposition of the power and precision of this heavyweight amp. In our abstract route, the developed concept featured organic simulations that felt as though they had power coursing through them, almost to the point of chaos. As the piece develops, we tame these forms, harnessing them within the amp in order to resonate with the Solo 800’s key messaging – ‘Power is nothing without control’. As the tone shifts to that of control, we concentrated on clarity and calm as we view the amp itself, reinforcing its silent running and top-of-the-range quality of sound – before ending on the all-important product reveal.
The lifestyle piece needed to be more aspirational, speaking to the audiophiles who would covet the product. We created a space that echoed the design of this amplifier, but that would also be seen as a minimal, stylish, listening room in which to enjoy the Solo 800. The challenge that this presented was that the amplifiers needed to be the star of the show, but in a more literal context, they would be part of a whole setup. By creating a more abstract space that has a sense of other-worldliness to it, we were able to ask viewers to suspend an element of belief, which allowed us to hero the amps without losing the aspirational quality.
Alongside the animations and key visuals we also provided a full range of product imagery allowing versatile use across all comms. From live events and exhibitions to a vast range of print and digital activations, the suite of assets provided have allowed Linn to market the Solo 800 with confidence that their visuals are not just strong in technical quality, but conceptual prowess too.
