ABOUT

According to the World Bank, Covid has caused the biggest disruption to global education and learning in history. Low- and middle-income countries like Brazil have been hardest hit, resulting in 70% of 10-year-olds unable to understand basic written texts. In addition, the return to face-to-face classes increased dropout rates in Brazilian public schools. Therefore, to prevent multiple generations from being affected, an effective solution is needed to reduce the impact of what has been called The Lost Generation.
If students left school to stay on their cell phones, we used their cell phones to make them stay at school.
Using a methodology validated by the Stanford University and the University of Pennsylvania and thru and through data-driven insights, we were able to create a behavioral nudge platform that generated personalized video and SMS messages through artificial intelligence to motivate students and provide emotional support as they struggle to stay engaged in school. And we sent it directly to students' cell phones twice a week.
We called it “#Reason to Stay” and called for students, parents, teachers, artists and celebrities to share videos about their personal experiences. We suggest spontaneous messages, but we list the 5 main problems faced by students that can lead to lack of motivation, school withdrawal and, often, school dropout.
The results: Nudges decrease evasion by 25%. And doubled the speed of learning. Over 10 million students served in over 12 states.
And for less than a cent per SMS.
